Dr Aroha Harris was honoured by the Royal Society of New Zealand last night, receiving the inaugural Royal Society Te Apārangi Early Career Researcher Award in Humanities. Ben Schrader has been awarded the Copyright Licensing New Zealand Writers’ Award for his next good book on New Zealand cities. His Big Smoke: New Zealand Cities 1840-1920 (BWB, 2016) was shortlisted for the General Non-Fiction category of the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards 2017.
Almost 350 people packed Te Marae at Te Papa on Friday to attend an event to mark the publication of The 9th Floor: Conversations with New Zealand Prime Ministers.
BWB has produced books on three iconic New Zealand documents: He Whakaputanga/The Declaration of Independence (1835), Te Tiriti o Waitangi/The Treaty of Waitangi (1840), and The Women's Suffrage Petition/Te Petihana Whakamana Poti Wahine (1893).
Congratulations to Barbara Brookes, Winner of the Ockham Award, Illustrated Non-Fiction section!
We are thrilled that Professor Brookes has won this award! A History of New Zealand Women represents a lifetime’s research and writing by the author, and decades of strong publishing on women’s issues by BWB.
